Hidden Staircase, New York Yacht Club
This highly exclusive, invitation-only club is an architectural landmark of New York City. The centerpiece of the clubhouse is the “Model Room” which houses scale models of historically important vessels. It was declared a National Landmark in 1987.
In order to accommodate larger events, the Model Room required an additional means of egress without disturbing its architecture. The solution came in the form of a mechanized “hidden” staircase that could be deployed during larger events and retracted between floors when not in use.
